Hikvision, the world leading provider of security products and solutions, has launched its Thermal & Optical Bi-spectrum Binocular (DS-2TS16) camera into a new outdoor market. This will enable outdoor enthusiasts, like hikers, birdwatchers and hunters, to be able to observe animals, even at night and in bad weather conditions. In this way their experience can be maximised, and they won’t miss opportunities to catch what they came to see.
The camera uses bi-spectrum image fusion technology to enhance object details and recognition which helps to find targets more easily. The camera produces a crystal clear image on an OLED screen with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. The optical lens also offers ultra low-light illumination, helping it to operate down to 0.001 lux.
With 640 x 512 thermal resolution and a highly sensitive thermal detector, murky dark vistas can be transformed, clearly showing detected targets up to 700m away (for the 35mm model) and 1000m away (for the 50mm model).
The binoculars are independent from any light source – with the optical and thermal technologies working together to provide the best combined image, even in fog, heavy rain snow and dusk, when animals tend to be at their most active.
A target (of about 1.7m high) can be locked between redefined lines on screen, allowing more accurate identification and location. The binoculars also provide recording, snapshot, replay and picture search functionality which allows users to quickly and easily review what they have captured.
Other features include:
– Ample storage: 32G SD card
– Wide operating temperature range: – 30 °C to 55 °C (-22 °F to 131 °F)
– Up to 7 hours battery life, and 4 additional batteries for back-up
– Protected to IP67.

“There are a lot of people who love experiencing the great outdoors, from hikers and birdwatchers to hunters and rangers, says Marcel Wiechmann, Thermal Product Manager at Hikvision. “Our binoculars combine the latest thermal technology with a high-performing optical lens in an easily portable form. This allows outdoor enthusiasts to get more out of their experience by being able to spot things they would otherwise have missed.”
